Artist vinyl values

Pat Benatar vinyl values.
Originals, album by album.

Pat Benatar's first two albums both went Platinum or better, and Chrysalis pressed them at several US plants at once. That makes 1979 and 1980 copies easy to find and usually worth $3 to $8. What a copy is worth comes down to condition and a few specific variants, not age.

Pat Benatar original vinyl value overview

Clean, unworn copies matter more than which plant pressed them. The one Benatar LP from this period that reliably sells for more is the 1981 Mobile Fidelity half-speed master of In the Heat of the Night.

These ranges span the covered albums; they are not a single price for every pressing. Open the album guide and match the label, catalog, matrix, packaging, and grade before comparing a copy.

How to compare the right copies

An artist name and album title describe the music, not the manufacturing history. Work from the physical evidence before using any value range.

  1. Read the catalog prefix on the label: CHR and CHE are the original Chrysalis numbers, FV marks the 1983 reissue series.
  2. Check the back cover for 'CRC', which marks a Columbia House club edition.
  3. Look for white rim text on the label, which points to a later CBS-era repress.

04

What moves a copy toward the top of the range

The strongest value signal is a complete set of details that all point to the same issue. For the albums covered here, pay particular attention to:

  • Crimes of Passion: A 1980 CHE 1275 with glossy unworn labels and a jacket free of ringwear, seam splits or writing; even then, Discogs sales top out around $25.
  • In the Heat of the Night: Stamped-runout CHR 1236 with the original 'We Live for Love' mix in clean condition; for real money, the MFSL 1-057 half-speed master.

A later reissue in excellent condition can still be a great listening copy. It should simply be compared with reissue sales rather than original-press prices.

A few questions

The ones that come up.

Among the albums covered here, near-mint confirmed originals span $8–$25. The exact album, pressing, completeness, and condition determine the price, so use the linked album guide rather than treating that span as a blanket artist value.

Match the release-year label, complete catalog number, both runout matrices, jacket construction, and any original inserts. No single color, logo, or matrix fragment proves the whole pressing by itself.
