Start with how you collect.

Crown Vinyl vs. Spinz

Crown is a good fit when you want to photograph records, review their details, and keep a catalog you can check while digging. Spinz is worth a look when Discogs sync, record-store discovery, and collecting with friends are central to your routine.

Try Crown Vinyl: first 10 record saves free, credit packs after that, no subscription.

Two ways to keep track of your records

Both apps offer scanning and collection tools. The useful difference is how those tools fit into your collecting routine.

02 · From shelf to catalog

Capture, review, save. Then check before buying.

Crown’s workflow starts with the physical record in your hands. It suits collectors building a catalog from their shelves or adding new finds as they go.

  1. Capture your copy. Scan a barcode when available, or follow the photo prompts to photograph the record.
  2. Review the details. Check the suggested match and correct details or select another candidate when needed. A scan is a starting point; similar pressings can need a closer look.
  3. Save it to your catalog. Keep the record details and your photos in your cloud-synced collection, then search it later.
  4. Check before buying. Use “Do I own this?” to scan a barcode against your saved records. The result can distinguish a matching pressing from the same album in another or unknown pressing.

The ownership check is only as complete as the records you have added. A record still sitting on your shelf without a saved entry cannot appear in the result.

03 · Already cataloged?

Start with where your collection lives

If you already maintain a Discogs collection and wantlist, Spinz may be a better fit. Its advertised read/write sync lets you build around that existing catalog. You can also use Spinz without a Discogs account.

Crown’s verified workflow starts with records you add from photos or a barcode. We have not verified a Crown Discogs collection import or writeback workflow. If migration is essential, confirm the current options before switching; keep your existing catalog while you try a few records.

Spinz’s store maps and buddy tools are worth considering if planning record-shop trips or sharing the hunt matters to you. Crown’s focus here is your saved catalog and ownership check; it also has achievements and a leaderboard.

04 · Pay for the way you collect

Credits or optional Pro

Crown gives you 10 free record saves, then sells consumable credits: 5 for $0.99, 25 for $3.99, or 100 for $9.99. Each new saved record uses one credit. There is no recurring subscription, so this can suit cataloging in occasional batches.

Spinz offers free core collecting and optional Pro at $4.99 monthly or $29.99 annually. Consider whether you need the Pro features before comparing its subscription cost with Crown’s credits. These are different purchase models, rather than equivalent feature bundles.

Choose Crown if you want to try a focused photo-to-catalog routine with no subscription. Look at Spinz if Discogs sync, a web app, wantlists, and collecting with friends are priorities. Feature count alone does not tell you which app will be faster, more accurate, or easier for your records.

05 · Check the details

Official sources

Reviewed October 2, 2026. Spinz features are based on its published product information, not hands-on testing. Crown’s capture, review, save, and ownership flows were also checked against the app source.
