How to confirm a first-press
Three things separate an original from a later reissue beyond the catalog number.
- The LP reads Warner Bros. Records 1P 8001, with 1P 80011 and 1P 80012 printed on the side A and side B labels
- Runouts on the common version read 1P-80011-1A and 1P-80012-1A; Discogs credits that version to the Columbia Records pressing plant in Carrollton, Georgia
- Discogs lists a second 1P 8001 variant with floating Warner Bros. shield logos and 'CRC' on the labels; only 21 users own it, and it has sold for $50–75
- Retail copies were CD (9 26094-2) and cassette (4-26094); Discogs lists no retail LP
The matrix runout etched in the dead wax is the definitive identifier when label and catalog number both look era-correct.
