Artist vinyl values
The Band vinyl values.
Originals, album by album.
The Band's first two LPs sit close together in time and both use Capitol's late-1960s visual language, which makes careless identification easy. Catalog numbers, cover construction, labels, and runouts need to agree before a copy is treated as an original.

The Band original vinyl value overview
These textured, mostly dark jackets show ringwear and seam damage quickly. A correct rainbow-rim pressing with a clean, structurally sound cover is much harder to find than a merely playable copy.

How to compare the right copies
An artist name and album title describe the music, not the manufacturing history. Work from the physical evidence before using any value range.
- Match the Capitol catalog number on the label, spine, and each runout.
- Inspect gatefold seams, ringwear, and interior artwork under neutral light.
- Treat the rainbow-rim label as a date clue, then confirm the exact album-specific matrix.

What moves a copy toward the top of the range
The strongest value signal is a complete set of details that all point to the same issue. For the albums covered here, pay particular attention to:
- Music from Big Pink: Mono Capitol rainbow-rim with NM gatefold.
- The Band (Brown Album): NM gatefold with intact Landy portrait.
A later reissue in excellent condition can still be a great listening copy. It should simply be compared with reissue sales rather than original-press prices.

The ones that come up.
Among the albums covered here, near-mint confirmed originals span $40–$200. The exact album, pressing, completeness, and condition determine the price, so use the linked album guide rather than treating that span as a blanket artist value.
Match the release-year label, complete catalog number, both runout matrices, jacket construction, and any original inserts. No single color, logo, or matrix fragment proves the whole pressing by itself.
