Album value
Uncle Tupelo — Anodyne.
First-press value.
Anodyne is Uncle Tupelo's fourth and final studio album, recorded live in the studio at Cedar Creek in Austin and released by Sire on October 5, 1993. It was a CD and cassette release only. The first vinyl edition was Rhino's 180-gram gatefold LP in 2010, and that is the copy collectors pay for. The 2020 clear-vinyl and 2026 Rhino High Fidelity editions sell for less.

The first-press, by the numbers
Released 1993. Its first vinyl pressing came in 2010, on the Rhino 180-gram label.
- US stereo catalog: R1 45424

How to confirm a first-press
Three things separate an original from a later reissue beyond the catalog number.
- There is no 1993 LP. Sire issued Anodyne on CD (9 45424-2) and cassette (9 45424-4), so any vinyl copy is from 2010 or later
- The 2010 Rhino LP is R1 45424: 180-gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, pressed at RTI, barcode 0 81227-98604 9
- Later editions are marked by catalog number: RCV1 45424 is the 2020 clear-vinyl edition of 3,850 made in the EU, and RHF1 45424 is the 2026 Rhino High Fidelity edition, numbered out of 5,000 and cut by Kevin Gray
The matrix runout etched in the dead wax is the definitive identifier when label and catalog number both look era-correct.

The ones that come up.
Check the label design (Rhino 180-gram), the catalog number (R1 45424), and the matrix runout etched in the dead wax. All three need to line up for a confirmed first-press. There is no 1993 LP. Sire issued Anodyne on CD (9 45424-2) and cassette (9 45424-4), so any vinyl copy is from 2010 or later.
A near-mint 2010 Rhino R1 45424 with a clean, unsplit gatefold brings the top of the NM range, typically $80–$170.
The 2010 Rhino R1 45424 was the album's first vinyl and is out of print. The 2020 clear-vinyl edition of 3,850 and the 2026 Rhino High Fidelity edition are newer and easier to find, so they trade for about $25–55 near mint.
Anodyne was issued in stereo only as a first-press. The R1 45424 pressing is the reference.
