Artist vinyl values
The Who vinyl values.
Originals, album by album.
The Who's two major rock operas are packaging-heavy records. A label and catalog number can identify the basic issue, but the libretto in Tommy and the bound booklet in Quadrophenia are central parts of the collectible—not optional extras.

The Who original vinyl value overview
Complete UK Track and early US copies command the attention. When comparing prices, distinguish a clean complete package from a record-only copy or a gatefold with a damaged or missing booklet.

How to compare the right copies
An artist name and album title describe the music, not the manufacturing history. Work from the physical evidence before using any value range.
- Identify the country first: US Decca or MCA and UK Track copies use different catalog systems.
- Check booklet pagination, attachment, tears, and missing leaves before assigning a condition grade.
- Copy the matrices from every disc; double albums can contain mismatched replacement records.

What moves a copy toward the top of the range
The strongest value signal is a complete set of details that all point to the same issue. For the albums covered here, pay particular attention to:
- Tommy: UK Track Records first-press with intact libretto booklet.
- Quadrophenia: Intact 44-page booklet + NM gatefold.
A later reissue in excellent condition can still be a great listening copy. It should simply be compared with reissue sales rather than original-press prices.
A few questions
The ones that come up.
Among the albums covered here, near-mint confirmed originals span $50–$250. The exact album, pressing, completeness, and condition determine the price, so use the linked album guide rather than treating that span as a blanket artist value.
Match the release-year label, complete catalog number, both runout matrices, jacket construction, and any original inserts. No single color, logo, or matrix fragment proves the whole pressing by itself.
