Taylor Swift — Reputation.
First-press value.

Reputation's standard vinyl is a 2×LP picture disc, first sold in December 2017 and repressed again and again since then. That copy usually sells for $120 to $200, and the price depends on condition more than on which run you have. The real money is in the orange translucent pressing, an FYE exclusive limited to 3,000 copies, with a Discogs median of $1,300.

The first-press, by the numbers

How to confirm a first-press

Three things separate an original from a later reissue beyond the catalog number.

  1. The standard vinyl is a 2×LP picture disc, catalog BMRCO0600F, barcode 8 43930 03315 7. It first went on sale December 8, 2017 at Barnes & Noble, a week before the December 15 general release
  2. GZ Media copies show the catalog number twice in the runout (etched, then stamped as 'BMRC 00600F-A'), a GZ job number starting 166646, 'RKS' etched and 'STERLING' stamped. Discogs logs at least six runout variants, and Precision Record Pressing has also repressed it
  3. Represses carry the same 2017 jacket and catalog number, so a 2017 copy is hard to tell from a later one. Grade the disc surface and the gatefold rather than paying extra for a claimed first run
  4. The orange translucent 2×LP (FYE exclusive, 3,000 copies) has BMRCO0600G on the hype sticker, BMRCO0600F on the spine, a Made in Canada sticker on the rear shrink, and inner sleeves marked BMRCO0600F EV01 and EV02

The matrix runout etched in the dead wax is the definitive identifier when label and catalog number both look era-correct.

If you have one

Pull the record. Check the label first against the Big Machine Records (picture disc) design. Confirm the catalog number on the label matches BMRCO0600F. Then check the matrix runout in the dead wax. All three lining up is the first-press confirmation.

Or scan with Crown Vinyl. The app reads the label, catalog number, and matrix runout from a single photograph, returns the exact pressing, and pulls a current value from recent real sales. Free on the App Store.

A few questions

The ones that come up.

Check the label design (Big Machine Records (picture disc)), the catalog number (BMRCO0600F), and the matrix runout etched in the dead wax. All three need to line up for a confirmed first-press. The standard vinyl is a 2×LP picture disc, catalog BMRCO0600F, barcode 8 43930 03315 7. It first went on sale December 8, 2017 at Barnes & Noble, a week before the December 15 general release.

The orange translucent FYE pressing with both catalog numbers and its Made in Canada shrink sticker; the picture disc itself tops out near $200 brings the top of the NM range, typically $120–$200.

There's no way to tell them apart. Big Machine has kept repressing the picture disc with the same jacket, so an early copy looks the same as a later one. The variant that sells for much more is the orange FYE pressing of 3,000 copies.

Reputation was issued in stereo only as a first-press. The BMRCO0600F pressing is the reference.
